Nancy Fechtel: Abstract Expressionist
Nancy Noel Fechtel is an abstract painter who lives and works in Dallas. She has studied painting, sculpture and drawing. Her current focus is acrylics and mixed media on canvas. Her artistic journey began at the age of five when her grandmother gave her encouragement, a few old crayons and a piece of wrinkled butcher paper. Her family then began summering in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains outside of Santa Fe, where she spent years cultivating a love of nature and the New Mexico landscape, and absorbing the work of local Native-American artisans. As her children were growing up, she and her own family regularly spent time at the beach in Florida. It is there that she developed a love and respect for the ocean and a fascination with waves and clouds. The time spent in both of these environments have had an indelible impact on her artistic expression.
After receiving a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin in art history with a minor in studio, she created businesses in silk-screen design and fashion.
Exclusively a painter for years, Nancy utilizes multiple layers of paints, plasters and glazes, while consistently maintaining a reverence for natural shape and color.
